Someone
who wants to be a successful entrepreneur must have competencies with their
time. Competencies, in the most general terms, are “things” that an individual
must demonstrate to be effective in a job, role, function, task, or duty. These
“things” include job-relevant behaviour such as what a person says or does that
result in good or poor performance, motivation and technical knowledge or
skills. Competencies are identified through the study of jobs and roles. As
entrepreneurs, they must compete with their time especially in managing
business. Saat Sulaiman, 2008 said that, 80 percent of entrepreneurs fail in
planning or they never have a business plan as they do not know how to manage
time. To be a successful entrepreneur, we must compete with our time so that
our business can be more successful and customers will be attracted to our
products.
As an example, Faiza Bawumi Sayed
Ahmad, the person who produces her own rice under her own brand, that is Faiza
Marketing Sdn Bhd. She manages her time very well. Before this she used to sell
groceries. After that Faiza started to produce spices by the brand of Bunga
Raya. Then after she had her own shop, she learned various types of rice.
Before she proceeded to sell rice, she did some surveys in order to get
feedbacks on consumer demands. From the positive feedbacks, Faiza started to
get a licence as a rice supplier and sell various types of rice such as Ponni
and Basmathi (Nilam, 2013). The conclusion is, to become a successful
entrepreneur; we must have competencies in managing our time so that our time
will be used wisely and filled with something that can always give profits and
benefits to our business.
